It’s amazing how much the NBA has changed because of international players. Not too long ago, most of the league’s biggest stars were from the U.S., but now guys like Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Victor Wembanyama are dominating the league, and none of them are American. Jokić has won 3 MVPs within 4 years and a ring while playing like a 7-foot point guard. Giannis is a two-time MVP with a championship and one of the most unstoppable players in the game. And now there’s Wemby, who’s already a fan favorite and doing things we’ve never seen before, all in his rookie year. These guys didn’t just show up, they took over.
But it’s not just about how good they are. International players have changed the way the game is played and how it’s seen around the world. Jokić makes passing cool again, even as a center. Giannis brings power and speed that’s just ridiculous. And Wemby? He blocks shots, handles the ball, and shoots threes at 7'4". On top of that, more people around the world are watching the NBA than ever, cheering on players from their own countries. You see kids in Europe and Africa rocking NBA jerseys and dreaming of making it to the league. The NBA feels more global now, and honestly, it’s better because of it.
With so many international stars, it makes you think. Why not have a USA vs World game for the All-Star Game? Team USA would still be stacked, but the World team would definitely hold their own. It would be something new, fun, and way more competitive than some of the recent All-Star games. Plus, it would be a cool way to show off just how global the league has become. The NBA isn’t just America’s league anymore. It belongs to the whole world. And with the way things are going, international talent is only going to get better.
